Samento (also known as Uncaria tomentosa, or Cat’s Claw) is derived from the bark of a tropical woody vine adorned with cat claw-like thorns. A sacred plant among the indigenous Amazonian tribes of Peru, it was believed to regulate both the physical and spiritual worlds, and was traditionally used for all sorts of ailments including digestive problems, infections, fevers, childbirth complications, pain and inflammation.

Samento contains numerous bioactive chemical compounds with beneficial health effects. Most potent are its POAs, or pentacyclic oxindole alkaloids, that have been shown to stimulate the production, activity, and effectiveness of white blood cells that detect and attack harmful foreign bacteria and viruses in our bodies. Samento also has significant anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects that substantiate its effectiveness in reducing pain and inflammation in rheumatoid- and osteoarthritis, as well as strengthening the immune system.
